“Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then all the trees of the forest sing for joy.” – Psalm 96:11-12
By witnessing nature’s surrender to the elements, we can learn a great deal about what it means to be human. Every day we are given a choice to surrender to the son, the living water, and the rushing winds of spirit, connecting us to our creator, our individual nature, and the lives that surround us.
Capable is the ocean that sustains old and new life alike. Magnificent are the mountains that have embraced the shifting below their surfaces. Beautiful and helpful are the plants who capture the sunlight in their leaves and share it with other living creatures. Mighty are the winds and the rains that form and reform the earth we stand in awe of—and mightier still are the hands who orchestrate the song of the earth and the dance of life.
Perhaps we could “consider the lilies” and follow nature’s example more—
“If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy
Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times“
